Abstract

The Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology (University of Szeged) started the first international summer research seminar in I995 following mainly a Slovakian example. The seventh one organized by our department focused on the National-Historical Memorial Park, which is situated in Ópusztaszer, 25 kilometers from Szeged. It consists of a number of separate sections including, for example, the ruins of the medieval monastery of Szer. During the fieldwork we were interested in the habits of visitors, employees and employers and so on. As a result of our research we can say that Ópusztaszer plays a very important role in constructing Hungarian national identity through representing a special piece of our history, the age of the Hungarian Conquest.
