The study is about the first five years of the post-World War II period of Hungarian child welfare. In the first section, we can find a general report on the social and welfare situation after the cataclysm. We can familiarize ourselves with the people's, especially the children's, state of health and the various forms of provision available for them: Besides the_social welfare institutions created through laws, the civil organisations working at that time are presented as well. In the course of this, we can familiarize ourselves with the network of child welfare institutions, as well as with the provision and life of foundlings. In the course of the presentation of the reconstruction started at the middle of the 1940s, the restarting of kindergartens, the situation of war orphans and the related legal regulation are presented besides the institutions of education and healing. Then, we mention the international charity organisations that rendered significant help in the provision of the Hungarian population through their stopgap and supplementary activities after the world war. After the presentation of how the child welfare and youth institutions, as well as those of the maintenance of the poor were distributed in the county and the town, we can find the brief presentation of the institutions related to the country-wide welfare policies and child welfare. In the next chapter, we can familiarize ourselves with the situation of child welfare in Sopron county. In the course of this, the child welfare measures in the county at that time and the various related welfare allowances in money and in kind are presented, following a chronological order, and relying on the data of the Sopron Archives. We can familiarize ourselves with the situation of the districts of the county and the tasks that were to be solved then. Through studying social secretaries' and social inspector generals' reports, we get an insight of the civil and state organisations working in the county, the help rendered by them and the events. In the course of this, special attention gis given to the presentation of the child welfare institutions and provisions in the town of Sopron. The study is about the child welfare provisions of the period after World War II (1945-1950), in the course of which we deal primarily with the various allowances in kind and in money, as well as with the system of institutions, mostly relying on archival data.
