Abstract
The study provides a continuation of a theoretical summary that highlights the sociological and socio-psychological perspectives of research on the “new silent generation”. The possible contents related to the norm of silence are not only can be found in generational theories and character traits - as I published in the previous section of the study. Social and personal groups, and the concepts that can be associated with them, such as social norms, personal conformity, the reference group, and consensus heuristics, have a focus that can provide a basis for defining dimensions in the analysis. In addition to the concepts mentioned above, theories of attitudes play an important role in defining the characteristics of the “new silent generation”. Moscovici’s theory of social representation can be associated with the Allport-based thinking framework. In this way, social participation can be made measurable. Looking for possible explanations for the results of “silence”, object evaluation and value-expressing functions can become observable at the level of language, so in word usage, categories are created according to these aspects. The cognitive and affective nature of the representations may allow for further groupings that lead to the characterization of different types. We must not forget the influencing factors that are present in society. I have identified three of the macro-level phenomena, just as in Part I of the study, which are modernity, media, and social publicity. These are noteworthy concepts that can provide possible explanations on the path to understanding the social context of “silence”.
