Abstract

Asumir nuestra identidad genérica y sexual, sobre todo si no pertenecemos a la mayoría, es una tarea muy difícil en especial en las sociedades más tradicionalistas, como la sociedad mexicana, donde el acto performativo de ‘salir del clóset’ ha sido un hecho histórico importante no solo para los homosexuales, sino para toda la sociedad. En mi artículo presentaré brevemente este proceso y además, cómo se manifiesta en los términos que emplean para denominar a los gays. Assuming our gender and sexual identity, especially if we do not belong to the majority, is a very difficult task. Particularly so, in more traditional societies, such as Mexican one, where the performative act of ‘coming out’ has been an important historical fact not only for homosexuals, but for the whole society. In my article I will briefly present this process and also how it manifests itself in the terms used to denominate gay men by themselves and by those who don’t belong to that group.
