Abstract

Education models for the merchant bourgeoisie (Italy, 15th-17th centuries) During the Middle Ages, the traditional training model for those destined to carry out commercial activities was carried out in abacus schools: the levels of learning were very different depending on the mercantile activity to which each person was destined. In the early modern age, the influence of humanistic culture and the growing complexity of commercial activities modified educational strategies, combining technical knowledge with the training courses typical of city oligarchies, a premise for a different role that the bourgeoisie managed to assert in the 19th century.
