Abstract
The media- and cultural science-based processing of the 20th-century media historical developments still shows large shortcomings in the Hungarian scientific field. My paper primarily undertakes to test the validity of the ‚model-like movement of the media landcape’ concept (previously proposed by Mihály Szajbély) related to one of the most significant changes in media history of the 20th century, the appearance of radio broadcasting. In my article, I first contextualize the question of the dynamics of media historical changes from a theoretical point of view, and then I deal with the analysis of texts that sought to organize the relationship between printed press and radio broadcasting at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. Based on contemporary texts, it is clear that the publicistic and political function of the press was strengthened after the appearance of radio broadcasting. The study also points out that the appearance of radio broadcasting was accompanied by moderate media pessimism in Hungary.
