The radical bourgeois intelligencia of Szeged, which had strong anti-German feelings and strong respect for French revolutionary traditions, welcomed the arrival of the occupants and hoped that the French would help to keep the integrity of Hungary for the upcoming peace conference. They tried to inform the French nation about the economic, social and cultural background of Hungary with the help of the occupying soldiers. The main objective of ’La Hongrie Républicaine’, a Hungarian weekly publication in French, was to raise interest and create a positive attitude towards the Hungarian nation. The most important articles in the journal were written by Gyula Juhász, between 8th January 1919 and 21st March. In his articles Gyula Juhász emphasized the French-Hungarian revolutionary traditions, cultural relations and the strong influence of French culture on the poetry of Petőfi and Ady. However, the declarations of the Peace Conference undermined the hopes for maintaining territorial integrity and forming ethnically just borders. date: 2009 type: Konferencia vagy workshop anyag type: NonPeerReviewed format: part language: hu identifier: http://acta.bibl.u-szeged.hu/64250/1/tudomanyos_es_muveszeti_muhelymunkak_458-460.pdf identifier: Nagy Miklós: Juhász Gyula és a "La Hongrie Républicaine" 1919-ben.
