%X Air pollution has been implicated as an emerging risk factor to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). There is a growing prevalence of GDM in South Africa. This study aims to investigate, using photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS); the potential correlation of long-term exposure to enhanced levels of air pollutants with the prevalence of GDM in women living near coal mining operations.
