More than seventy years were the first artifacts came to sunshine from the cemetery of Csongrád-Vendelhalom. In 1937, from a field which was used for sand mining in the southern Hungarian county of Csongrád, a 10-11th century cemetery was uncovered. Since than more excavation were in this area: in 1937 (37 graves) in 1938 (1 grave), in 1955. June and July (4 graves), in 1957 (1 grave), in 1963 (2 graves), and they also found artifacts after 1963, but the summary of these haven't been completed yet. In my article I would like to put this shortage replace. Therefore I collected the documentation and the finds from the museum of Csongrád, Szentes and the Hungarian National Museum. Because of the different times of excavations and the large bothered of the cemetery the location in time is uncertain. We know about 47 graves, but we don't know that what percentage is this of the whole cemetary and beside this it's conceivable that some finds have passed. I could dated 20 graves within the 10-11th century (this is only the 42,5% of the known graves which put us on guard in the question of dating), 10 graves within the 10th century. In five graves they found find that can be dated to the whole 10th century. Between the second quarter and the end of the 10th century the 28. and 29. could be dug. On this basis the cemetery of Csongrád-Vendelhalom was opened at the beginning of the 10th century and was used until the middle of the 11th century.
