In this paper four works of Bede the Venerable are analysed and compared from a geographical point of wiew. The first work is the first book of História ecclesiastica genlis anglonim, the second one is Liber de locis sanclis, the third one is Nomina loconim ex beati Hieronimi presbyteri et Flavii Ioseplii collecta opusculis, and the last one is Liber de natura rerum. Geographical knowledge of Bede originated from classical authors, the Bible, the latin fathers, and contemporary british and frankish authors, but he had some original idea. Three levels can be separated in his geographical view, the first one is a global, the second one is a regional, and the last one is a local level. Three units of measurement were applied to estimate distance: passus, stadium and one day's journey. He did not forget to write about natural goods and the climate of Britain and Ireland. His horizon is based on frontier of Roman Empire, but Mesopotamia, Assyria, Arabia, Armenia, Bactria, Aetiopia, Caspi Mare, Ripheus and Thule were known by him. Sacral explanation is given for a lot of natural occurence in the Near-East, but there are a lot of rational explanations too in his writings. Mixing of sacral and rational elements can be found in the geographical views and knowledge of Bede the Venerable.
