The present essay aims to give an overview about the reactions of the press on the independence of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco that existed from 1912 to 1956 on a territory of 20 000 km2. Th e negotiations of Madrid (4-7th of April 1956) and their results will be described, as well as other historical – political, geopolitical and conceptual – dimensions. Th e two Spanish daily journals, the ABC and the La Vanguardia Española werethe most important sources of this study.
