The sport career disposes of such risk factors as the unforeseen length of the athletes' career or the difficulties of the adjustment to post-career life. The demand of planning the transitions through the sport career as well as the planning of termination have increased lately. During their career, athletes have to make complex decisions to be able to balance sport and education. The aim of this study is to propose both national and international examples and define the challenges and demands of dual career faced by elite athletes at the university. The study is a comparative analysis of samples collected from international and national studies, including the relevant policies and regulations. According to the conclusion of the study, the phenomenon of dual career is considered highly important in most member states of the European Union. Already in Hungary, there are examples for educational institutions supporting elite athletes by means of grants, scholarships or special regulations built into the institutions' own system, thus providing a chance for elite athletes to receive help with managing their education and sport career at the same time. Key words: sport career, dual career, educational support.
