Abstract

The aim of the present paper is to prove that the grammatical notion of person is inevitablein the rules of the Korean grammar, in that of analytical as well as synthetical type. On the other hand, this notion takes here a less prominent part than in European languages, and it may be taken, for secondary in comparison with several other categories of the Korean. It has been pointed out: that the existence of this notion depends (1) on non-linguistic reality (as in the case of personal pronouns); (2) on pragmatic (social) relations of communication (honorifics in lexikon^ morphology and syntax); (3) on other grammatical categories (vocative, moods of verbs, tense, word-derivation)- The rules given in the paper may be regarded as a preparation to a generative grammar of the Korean.
