My research topic includes two arbitrarily selected types of brooches in the Carpathian Basin, which can be found in the 5th century AD: Bakodpuszta, Letkés and Léva/Levice types. I chose these brooches, because they were used approximately at the same time and in the same territory. I have collected the finds from the Carpathian Basin, but other European specimens have not been ignored either. My aim was to map the spread of brooch types, reconstruct the wearing of brooches, clarification of the objects' chronological position. I also attempted to determine the ethnicity of these artefacts. I also dealt with the parallels of the brooches but the frames of the present paper are not wide enough for their detailed analysis. Last but not least, I raise the question about the possibility of casting workshops' continuity, because the high incidence of brooches in the Carpathian Basin refers to the existence of a Pannonian workshop. In addition, it can be assumed that silver castings were also made locally. In case of some brooches archaeometrical research was performed, the objective was to determine the composition of their material and investigation of their technological construction. A major part of my work includes costume reconstructions that were drawn on the basis of the location of the brooches in the graves. In this way one can see how diverse the costumes were in the past. Two pieces of clothing were reconstructed, which appears in the peplos, the tunic and the diagonal wear. In addition, two more interesting costume models could be observed, but these can not yet be treated as a separate group.
