Absztrakt (kivonat)
This article collects and summarizes the most important results and publications on the history of the Carthusian order in the medieval Hungarian Kingdom. The Carthusian order did not have a big community in Hungary, it had only four monasteries during the middle ages. Despite the small number of the monasteries, the order had international relations. The first attempt at settlement was in 1238, when the former Benedectine monastery on the island of Ercsi was donated to the Carthusians. Probably due to the Tatarian invasion the order left Hungary, because in 1253 Pope Innocent IV charged the abbey of the Cistercian monastery in Toplica to populate Ercsi. At the end of the 13 th century the monastery of Lapis Refugii in the Upper Plain was founded successfully. Later, in the heart of the Hungarian Kingdom Carthusian monasteries were also founded between 1330 and 1332, when Segedelemvölgy - near to Eger - became the centre of the order. The other monastery in the region was in Tárkány. It is supposed that the bishop of Eger had invited the order there to copy books for his library. King Louis I (1342-1382) had a great role in the foundation of a Carthusian establishment in Lövőid. This monastery is a very good example that the Carthusians did not work under total western influence. During the 15th century the Carthusian order recieved the monastery building left by the Premonstratensian order in Váradhegyfok, but this attempt remained unsuccessful. After the Hussite and the Turkish devastation the resettlement of the Carthusian order was not successful either. However, their former estates still appeared in later legal proceedings.
