Absztrakt (kivonat)
A Franciscan friar from the Crimea (father Ladizlaus custos de Gazma) wrote a letter to his brethren in 1287 in which he described the events that had happened not long ago. He reports the baptism of a certain Yaylaq (identified as a wife of Noghay) in the Crimea who had been converted to Christianity after visiting a Franciscan convent at Solkhat (Staryi Krym, Ukraine). The arrival of the ambassadors of the Khan of the Golden Horde, Telebuga and Nogay, the omnipotent lord of the western territories of the Golden Horde is another important date. They arrived in Solkhat to replace the bell in the church belfry, as it had been removed by the Muslims. One of the deputies was responsible for punishing the persons responsible for the removal. There were several religious communities in Solkhat according to the letter. The guardian informs us furthermore of the Franciscan convents in the territory of the Golden Horde. In my paper, I analyse the historical background of the letter, I focus on the relationship between the Franciscan order and the Golden Horde, and the role of Yaylak Khatun's conversion in it.
