Abstract

The astatio falsi termini is a legal technical term, which often appeared in 14th-century charters. The previous scientific literature, furthermore the different dictionaries and source editions explained the concept as the name of a contentious misdemeanour, which materialized if somebody appeared in front of the court as a representative but without the sufficient authorization (without a letter of advocacy or without an adequate letter of advocacy). However, the examination of the legal cases, written in 14th century charters, indicates, that this is one possible explanation of the concept. The court could also ascertain this misdemeanour if the attorney obtained appropriate authorization. The recent study delineates these cases as well as demonstrates circumstantially the punishment of those found guilty of astatio falsi termini, i. e. who and how was punished by the court under this due.
