Abstract

The study examines denominationally mixed marriages in five villag-es in the vicinity of Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfîntu Gheorghe, Romania) and how the practice of faith is manifested there. Centuries-old legal practices related to wed-dings, christenings, funerals, church attendance and everyday life are still alive and are shaped by the policy of the Roman Catholic church and by ethnic and denominational identity. Families’ practice of faith can be grouped into four types: equal rights, assimilative, patriarchal and Catholic
