Abstract
This paper focuses on the development of the musical instruments in the 19th century. In this sparkling period the improvements and discoveries of the instruments strongly influence on the one hand the compound of the Romantic ensembles and symphonic orchestras, on the other hand the playing technique (fluency, agility, accuracy, easy tone-shifts, new playing procedures etc.) and the tone quality (intensity, clearness, equalized tone color in the different registers etc.) of the instrumental sound. This effervescence significantly spins off the vocal-symphonic works of Wagner and Verdi.
