Despite József Birtha laid an excellent foundation in Levice (Léva), he did not survive his minority fate in Cechoslovakia – but his spirit lived on here. József Birtha continued to work relentlessly during the 17 years he spent in the Levice congregation, as is evident from the following: In the first months he spent there, he had new church furnishings procured, kits for the master’s desk financed by donations. He also renovated the parish vineyard’s rectory building and the summer building. In 1904 Birtha began to revive the Reformed school in Levice and in the middle of 1907, in addition to his ministry in Levice, to build a mission in Banská Štiavnica (Selmecbánya). On 20 September 1908, he consecrated the church. In 1912 the second kindergarten in Levice started its activity with sixty small children in the new building of the Protestant Home. By 1912 the Calvinist Court was built and between 1911 and 1919 the Hermes printing house was operated by him, which printed not only the Lévai Őrálló.
