Absztrakt (kivonat)
The reasons behind the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which escalated into war on 24 February 2022, are complex. The outbreak of war was immediately preceded by Russia's recognition of two states not recognised by the international community, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. With this move, Moscow aimed to obtain a casus belli against Ukraine. In my thesis, I will examine one of the causes of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the nature of the two breakaway states in eastern Ukraine. In my work, I seek to answer the question of what triggered the secession of these territories from Ukraine, the quality of statehood of the resulting state formations, and the factors that confer external and internal legitimacy on these de facto states. In addition to presenting the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, my work also aims to offer a solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In my thesis, I will use the works of domestic, foreign and Ukrainian authors and publicists to find the reasons for the secession of the above-mentioned republics, using their "constitutions" to describe their internal functioning. I will examine their external legitimacy through international law, and use local reports, news reports and descriptions from Ukrainian and Russian and local news agencies to decipher their internal legitimacy. In preparing my work, I have tried to get the fullest possible picture of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics from as many different perspectives as possible, because I believe that without understanding the creation of these 'states', no lasting and equitable solution to the region's problems can be found.
