In the panorama of 19th century Italian linguistics, Alessandro Manzoni, discussing aequo animo on numerous formulations, abolishes the absurd belief that a language can be evaluated far from Usage. He thus disproves the etymological and analogical theories on which previous dissertations were based on, and shows the path of the linguistic formation of Italian. Consequently, this work will analyse, for example, Sentir messa, the writing in which Manzoni dismantles the paradoxes of Enlightenment linguistics, in the person of Melchiorre Cesarotti, and corrects the erroneous beliefs of one of his followers, Vincenzo Monti. The research will demonstrate the superiority of Manzoni's achievements in this field of knowledge, and will at the same time reveal his anticipatory position, as what he had intuited would only later be taken into considered and developed in the field of linguistics and the study of languages.
