Desde el siglo 16, la labor de los españoles en el descubrimiento, conquista y colonización de América fue cuestionada por aquellos países que, no pudiendo vencer a los ejércitos españoles, tergiversaron, cuando no mintieron abiertamente, sobre aquella magna empresa. Siglos después fueron los criollos independentistas y en la actualidad los numerosos movimientos populistas americanos los que han asumido dicho discurso azuzando a las masas en el derribo de las estatuas y monumentos conmemorativos y en la reescritura del discurso histórico. Fenómeno este propiciado por las contingencias y avatares de una política nacional española que zahiere la labor de nuestros ancestros allende los mares. Abstract: Since the 16th century, the work of the Spanish in the Discovery, conquest and colonization of America was questioned by those countries that, unable to defeat the Spanish armies, misrepresented, or lied, about that great labor. Centuries later, it was the proindependence American people and currently the numerous American populist movements that have assumed this discourse, inciting the masses to demolish the statues and commemorative monuments and to rewrite the historical discourse. This phenomenon is fostered by the contingencies and vicissitudes of a Spanish national policy that hurts the work of our ancestors beyond the seas.
