The Department of Ancient History, University of Szeged has a very rich history since the University of Kolozsvár moved to Szeged in 1921. Among the former distinguished heads of our Department we can mention Árpád Buday, Aurél Förster, Károly Kerényi, Károly Marót, Samu Szádeczky-Kardoss, István Hahn, Egon Maróti and Gyula Wojtilla, all of them internationally renowned scholars of antiquity, archaeologists and classical philologists. Their careers and most important works are also mentioned. In the second part of the paper, we present the current head of the department and her staff, as well as our most important publications and conferences of the last decade, and our teaching work from talent management to the PhD programme.
