Following the opening up of Latin America in accordance with the requirements of the Soviet foreign policy in the 1950s, Cuban workers from the former colonial world arrived in Hungary in the 1980s. Labour migration into the Third World was an unusual phenomenon in the state-socialist system of Hungary led by János Kádár, and the arrival of foreign ethnic and cultural groups of Cuban guest workers had an unexpected impact on the social environment that hosted the migrant workforce. The aim of the research is to find out whether while the influx of foreign labor was a strategic basis and a prerequisite for socialist large-scale manufacturing, migratory hospitality, following the historical traditions of former colonial oppression, has evolved into a socialist form of exploitation in the last decade of the Kádár administration. In the examination of the era, the question is raised: has the receptive society drawn the boundary between ‘they’ and our world, which is far from the paradox of the socialist interpretation of racial equality, promulgated by the ideals of State Socialism. Work migration is also considered a phenomenon of outstanding intensity, dynamics and frequency in today’s society, so the actuality of research extends to the present.
