Saint Henry belonged to the Liudolf-dinasty. After the death of Otto III he became king of Germany in 1002. Pope Benedict VIII. crowned him emperor in 1014. Emperor Henry died in 1024, and Pope Eugene III. cenonized him in 1146. His legend was written in the middle of the 12th century. Saint Henry is important in the Hungarian culture because, as the brother of Gisela he was brother-in-law of King Stephan. We are publishing the Hungarian translation of his legend based of the edition of Marcus Stumpf, although the present translation omits most of the charters contained in the legend.
