Absztrakt (kivonat)
The offensive launched by the main Hungarian army in the Zsigárd-Pered area along the Vág river failed in June 1849. During this offensive the performance of the participating army corps and their commanders varied greatly. The participants were the 1st (Major General József Nagysándor), 2nd (Colonel Lajos Asbóth), and 3rd corps (Major General Károly Knezić), as well as a division of the 8th corps (Colonel Mór Kosztolányi) and a detachment lead by Lieutenant Colonel János Horváth. Excluding the latter two, the 2nd corps and Colonel Asbóth fared reasonably well, while the 1st and 3rd corps and their commanders performed quite badly during the offensive. The aim of this study is not the thorough examination of the military operation, but to identify the factors and reasons contributing to why these two corps and their commanders performed below expectations.
