Absztrakt (kivonat)

The starting point of the research is the 19 Scythian cemeteries of the Scythian period excavated at the Derecske–Meggyes–szik Kelet site, where two burials with grave structures were also found. My aim was to analyse in detail the structure, burial practices, finds and origin of these burials. From the Vekerzug culture area, I collected 21 burials with grave structures, which can be divided into four groups according to their structure: 1. simple box-like construction burials; 2. burials with a circular burial chamber, 3. burials with a supporting column structure, 4. burials with a larger grave chamber. In burial customs, the highest proportion of cremation was observed, followed by the scattered ash rite. Urn burials were not present in the graves known from my collection. The finds also included artefacts of the Scythian material culture of the North Pontic region (e.g. akinakes, arrowheads, iron picks/ axes, bronze mirrors, horse harness). Alongside these, local Late Bronze Age traditions and locally emerging Scythian finds were encountered in my research. The tradition of grave building itself in the Eurasian steppe dates back to the Pre-Jamnaya period, which led me to look for parallels spatially narrowed to the forest-steppe belt. The parallels were distant in both distance and character. In the forest-steppe, burial under mounds was more common among the elite, and the dimensions and structures of their graves reveal more complex constructions. The larger burial chambers were supported by stones or several posts, and the spaces were filled with clay plaster. In contrast, the Vekerzug graves were simple chest/box type burials with a much smaller footprint, and stone/clay plastering was not used at all. The results showed that the persons buried in grave structures were associated with the upper echelons of society, their prominence being reflected not only in their material representation but also in the construction of wooden structures.
