The study examines the partisan reprisals against local Hungarians in Zenta in 1944, during the Second World War, and the mechanism of their subsequent justification, with particular regard to the denunciations made by local residents. The analysis of the content and impact of the denunciations in the Vojvodina Archives, fonds 183, highlights the distortions in the judicial process and the dangers of the principle of collective guilt. The analysis of the documents reveals that the partisan authorities often produced them for ex-post self-corroboration, which raises serious questions about their objectivity and credibility. The paper stresses the importance of source criticism and the complexity of historical truth, which cannot allow for simplistic collective imputations of responsibility.
