Transnational corporations (TNCs) involved in global water governance are increasingly using corporate social responsibility (CSR) to reduce the negative impacts of their activities and improve their image. Although the CSR activities of TNCs show significant geographical variations, this issue has been less explored in the context of water governance. The main aim of our study is to explore how geographical factors influence the water-related CSR strategies and activities of TNCs. For this purpose, two TNCs specialised in water technology, Xylem and Grundfos, serve as a case study. A qualitative content analysis of CSR documents and official websites of these two companies has been conducted for the period 2019-2022, using the geographical conceptual triad space–place–scale as an analytical framework. Our results highlight the multi-scalar character of corporate water governance and the importance of geographical context in water-related CSR activities. Therefore, this study contributes to our understanding of corporate operations, particularly sustainability practices, and ultimately helps address water challenges.
