This paper presents the Hungarian natural philosopher, Adolf Lendl’s (1862-1942) travelogue about his scientific expedition in South America, which was published in 1908 under the title Úti levelek a két világrészből. Az Atlanti óceántól a Csendes óceánig (Travel letters from two continents. From the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean). Lendl, who was the director of the Budapest Zoo between 1912-1926, travelled to the South American country at the invitation of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Argentina in order to observe the flora and fauna of the Pampas. In a quite unique way, he covered the distance of 1400 km on foot and even crossed the Cordilleras to reach Chile. His travelouge was a significant contribution to the 19th and the first half of the 20th century’s Hungarian travel literature, because there wasn’t published any other record from Hungarian travellers about the southern region of America, with the exception of János Czetz’s Memoirs.
