Absztrakt (kivonat)

The revival of national styles is typical of 19th century European music. That time the concepts “universal” and “national” were ideas rooted in each other. Contemporary European audience welcomed the new “exotic” approaches deriving from the popular character of various countries’ national music. The most popular impacts were of Polish, Hungarian and Russian influence, the characteristics of which were often adopted by a number of European composers. Two main streams evolved in national music cultures: the traditional European and the national radical wing. Their influence on the national music culture resulted in the presence of three approaches in compositions. The study examines some pieces by Brahms, Erkel, Mosonyi and Liszt as examples of compositions which involve the characteristics of different approaches besides those of Hungarian music.
