Absztrakt (kivonat)
The lecture will focus on significant relationships between knowledge centre and regional identity. Firstly, it will deal with the multidimensional reality of contemporary identities. Some specific directions, statements and issues of identity research will be reviewed. The complexity of these issues will be highlighted by interpretations attempting to help individuals being enmeshed in the web of identities. Views of Erikson, Giddens, Fukuyama, Franz Boas, Krappmann, and Margaret Mead will be presented. Secondly, the lecture will concentrate on regional identity and its main structures: cultural identity, strategic identity as well as emotional and lifestyle-related identity structures. Important elements contributing to the development of a collective consciousness and a feeling of belonging to people living in a given region will be presented. Special attention will be directed to the increasing role of symbols and institutions in constructing the concept of region as well as the location and responsibility of universities being symbolic and practical knowledge centres in the development and functioning of the learning region.
