Relying on language cultivation works and my own experience, it can be ascertained that the suffix -ért has at least three pronunciation variants (-ért, -ér, -é) in the spoken forms. These pronunciation variants can be prestige-ranked. It is also probable that the usage of the different variants is mainly determined by the speaker’s sociocultural background and the language situation. However, it is surprising that according to the evidence of the maps of the MNyA, the pronunciation variant of the written form does not appear in any Hungarian dialect. So the -ért variant which in the spoken language of today is supposed to be used in formal situations is not due to the codification of some dialect form. Consequently the main breaking line is not between the dialects but between the written and spoken languages. Reduction must have happened to the ending of the suffix earlier in each spoken language variant, while the written language has preserved the -CC phoneme-sequence which is very rare in the ending of adverbial suffixes. So it is presumable that the written-forme-based pronunciation is probably the reaction of the written language on the spoken language, which is not a spontaneous language change but it can be attached to certain codification activity, the elaboration of pronunciation norms. Unfortunately, we are unaware of the process of the codification itself, and the participants but it can be proved that the phenomenon, the reaction of the written language on the normative spoken variants, has occured in case of other studied variables studied such as dropping of -/ or the dropping of the -n in the inessive suffix -ban/-ben.
