The paper examines three variations of the Hungarian possessive constructions: the nominative possessor, the dative possessor, and the dative possessor in post-nominal position. The goal of this study is to describe the Hungarian possessive construction in a more adequate way. Using the Minimalist Approach as a basis I try to solve the following problems: how does case-marking in the possessive constructions come to pass, how can the double case-marking be avoided, the agreement between the possessor and the possessum. Further more, I deal with the problems concerning the articles: the deletion of the articles in the constructions containing a nominative possessor. To solve this problem I redefined the article deletion rule on the basis of the Minimalist Approach. In the first part of the study I introduce the basic concepts, definitions and operations of the theoretical frame I used, I refer to the role of the little n appearing in the noun phrase, and I show the feature checking in the Hungarian DP. In the second part of the study the derivation of the possessive construction is shown in two different ways. The advantages and disadvantages of these solutions are discussed, and I bring up arguments for the construction that uses the Agr-projection which is neglected in the latest variation of the Minimalist Approach. In the third part I deal with the questions concerning the article, I try to treat the problems according to the Minimalist Program.
