In my study I describe in detail the trends of the Balkan policies of the Austro–Hungarian Empire, especially such events of the end of the 19th century as, for instance, the Serbian May turning-point, the annexation crisis, etc. I furthermore expound on the trend of the armed forces of the Austro–Hungarian Empire and Serbia and I attempt to answer the question of why the Empire fell behind in the arms-race. I also deal with the introduction of the two countries’ war plans and I aspire to point out the insufficiencies of the Austro–Hungarian Empire’s war plans.
