Abstract
Pomponius Mela De Chorographia libri tres című lebilincselően megírt földrajzi munkájának keltezése a mű reneszánszkori újrafelfedezésétől kezdve egészen a mai napig vitatott. A kutatók sokáig úgy gondolták, hogy a mű a Caligula-korban keletkezett, azonban a 19. század végén és a 20. század elején e nézet háttérbe szorult, majd ezt követően a mű Claudius-kori születését tartották valószínűbbnek. A kérdés újbóli körüljárásával és az eddig keletkezett érvek felülvizsgálatával arra az eredményre jutottam, hogy a korábban háttérbe szorult nézet korántsem helytelen, sőt legalább annyira helytálló lehet, mint a mű Claudius-korra való datálása. Végeredményként a De Chorographia keltezését Kr. u. 40 és 44 közé tettem. The fascinatingly-written geographical work of Pomponius Mela, the De Chorographia libri tres has been rediscovered in the age of renaissance, and it’s dating is controversial ever since. For a long time, the researchers thought that it was written during the Caligula regime, but at the end of the 19. century this opinion has been overshadowed by a theory that dates the work into the Claudius regime instead. By reconsidering the theories and arguments around the question, I realized that the overshadowed theory is not certainly incorrect. What is more, it could be as correct as the newer one. As a result, I date the work between 40–44 AD.
