Abstract
Ferenc Ambrus (1914–1990) old Catholic priest failed to be acknowledged by the Hungarian state socialist primal church-political institution, the State Depart-ment for Religion regardless his constant efforts from the 1960s to the late 1980s. Ambrus was a descendant of a peasant family of German origins. His original name (Nuszpl) was hungarianized in 1939. After World War II he encountered Tamás Fehérváry (1917-1984) Old Catholic bishop who ordained him. The bishop, who later emigrated to Canada and Ambrus had an active correspondence form the 1970s. The letters are the primary source of the present paper.
