Abstract
The paper analyses the history of the most important statue of the Virgin Mary for the Roman Catholics in Transylvania: it is the statue of the Virgin Mary in Csíksomlyó, one of the biggest shrine of Roman Catholic Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin. The author describes some of its parallels in different settlements of Transylvania. He supposes that the statue could be part of an altarbuilding. - The paper also analyses the miraculous picture (painting) of the Virgin Mary which can be seen now in the university, formerJesuit and Piarist church of Kolozsvár/Cluj. There are different interpretations on the origin of the picture in the Hungarian andRomanian tradition. Itis anOrtodox icon. The author describes also the parallels and copies of the picture in churches in Transylvania.
