We perceive the external world through the five senses; this is called exteroception. However, we also perceive the inner state of our bodies -this is called interoception. The inner world that we perceive is our own body and soul. External and internal perception can only be deep and insightful if they work together. In a technological civilization like ours, the modem person is more and more distanced from their external and inner nature; denaturalized, they live in a selfconstructed artificial world. In this world, external perception becomes increasingly important, and severe psychological addictions have arisen, which often deteriorate into mental disorders. External and internal perception of the body and soul are closely intertwined, and like exhaling and inhaling, they must be in harmony. The ideas, ideologies and everyday life of the modem person are distorted by the excess of external stimuli, and ultimately become dependent of these stimuli, because they limit inner spiritual meditation. Some American sociologists even talk of masses now living in the hypnosis of the media; that, however, would be an issue of spiritual pathology.
