In the economy of the 21th century it is prominently important for companies to be able to accommodate to the consistently changing economic processes. Innovation is indispensable to competitiveness and reach higher profit. Silicon Valley is a region in the southern San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California, United States of America. The Valley, as the iconic place of the innovative development, has urged a lot of researchers to examine the secret of its success and to find out how the first startups emerged. It was an important question since the Silicon Valley became a leading industrial force seemingly without serious background very quickly in a small region. The main goal of the study is to discover the legal, the economic and necessarily the technological aspects of emergence of the Valley together with the main stages of development. If a researcher’s goal is a complex examination of a legal institution studying of the historical background is essential. It is necessary to understand the social, the legal and the economic conditions of evolvement of startups so that pure legal aspects could be studied later. It has to be highlighted that related studies date differently the time of the first startups and different development stages and success factors are emphasized and detailed. Therefore, the aim of this study is to give a coherent historical picture about the development stages, the legal, the economic and necessarily the technological aspects of the emergence of the Silicon Valley. After determination of startups the historical background is explained in two chapters. Silicon Valley caused unprecedented industrial development that is why lots of researchers studied its history. This essay tries to present a coherent picture included the legal, the economic and the technological aspects. Thereafter the success factors of evolvement of startups are collected to show which factors are needed to be examined when a new startup ecosystem wants to be built or an existing one wants to be improved.
