Absztrakt (kivonat)

The pontoon bridge connecting Pest and Buda were put into traffic in 1767, and defi nitively made his usage unnecessary following the construction of the Chain Bridge in 1849 only. Th e pontoon bridge was rebuilt many times in the course of his 82 years long history, but may not have been despite all developments to eliminate the most important defi ciency of the bridge, that in the winter months, it was not possible to be use because of the ongoing ice. Th e history of the usage of the bridge relatively well documented, the contemporary newspapers has news about the events being attached to the usage of the pontoon bridge regularly. Th e taking apart of the pontoon bridge was attached to onset of the lasting cold weather, and appearance of ice. Onto replacement of the bridge may have been found then only though, if the Danube became ice-free permanently. We may receive an accurate picture based on informations being attached to the passive period of the pontoon bridge on a manner such from the duration of the cold winter weather and his rigorousness in the country’s middle zone. Drawing from George Orwell wording the duration of the winter cold weather, that framed the decomposition and rebuilding of the pontoon bridge we called as an "outer winter”, while the duration of Danube freezing up, the big cold period as an "inner winter”. We made use the news concerning the pontoon bridge of Pozsony (Bratislava, Pressburg), the two time series beside the data of the pontoon bridge of Pest-Buda several cases complemented each other. Th e winters of the last decade of the 18th and fi rst decade of the 19th century were mild unusually, the Danube did not freeze up certainly with 11 occasions in two decades. But since the 1810s the ice-free winters on an extraordinary manner became rare, and a new climate regime got to rule on a visible manner. Th e transitional period were the 1810s, the centre of gravity of last big cooling of the little ice age considering the temperature of winters started from the waist of the 1820s and closed on the middle of the 1840s in the Carpathian Basin. Th e freezing up turning into frequenter one had favourable and adverse consequences from the viewpoint of the local society. Danube freezing up made the winter traffi c possible on the ice bridge of the river, which was not safe always at the same time, vigorous ice-fl ood followed the river freezing up oft en moreover, that in consideration of the location of Pest-Buda and onto the bed construction of Danube was never harmless.
