Abstract
In my study, I will describe the considerations that the Yugoslav authorities weighed in their prolonged ban on the Hungarian Cultural Association in Zenta. In addition to outlining the historical context, I will discuss the authorities’ criteria for examining the association life of Hungarian minority. In this context, I provide new contributions on the attitude of the central authorities in Yugoslavia towards Hungarian cultural self-organisation in Vojvodina. I will approach the history of the banning of the association from different angles, which will help to outline the scope and possibilities of Hungarian association life in Zenta.
