The 1938th was an outstanding year in the history of Hungarian Catholicism in the XXth century. The XXXIVth Eucharistic Worldcongress was organised on the 900th anniversary of the death of our state founder king. At the same time there were Saint Stephan jubilee programmes throughout the country. One of the most outstanding elements of these programmes was the Saint Right's complete tour of Hungary. During this tour our first king's relic was in Szeged on 26th and 27th June 1938. On the great occasion the leadership of Csanád diocese organised a largescale series of celebrations cooperating with the local government. The Saint Right was carried in parade to the Votive Church where Julius Glattfelder of Mór, the bishop of diocese and Béla Tóth the vice mayor delivered a festal address. Then began the segnence of rituals lasting until the Saint Right was out of town. The celebrations moving 70-80 000 people gave a opportunity to demonstrate the good relation between the government and the Catholic Church and all round cooperation for the local residents. The great number of worshippers illustrated the influence of Catholic Church in Szeged and in the vicinity of the town. The local corporative organisations - led by Jesuits - built the visitation of the Saint Right deftly in their programmes. It is, of course, presumable that many participants regarded the events as spectacles deeply rooted in traditions. It is certain, however that the series of celebrations caused deep religions experience in many people. Besides it is not neglectable that the hardly 7 years old episcopal seat demonstrated the fitness of Hungarian Catholic Church for its role. That's why it is unquestionable that the Saint Right festivals must be looked at by the posterity as one of the most outstanding events in the history of local church.
