Absztrakt (kivonat)
The aim of this paper is to give an introduction to the historical background of the Latin American integration and also to the present and future of this process. Since the era of Simon Bolivar several ideas and forms of integration emerged with the objective to challenge and give response to the common problems of the region in order to strengthen the international position and the social and economic development of Latin America. Although many attempts have failed or have not met the expected results so far – mainly because of the heterogeneity of Latin America and the diff erent levels of social and economic development of the countries – the region has not stopped to create new initiatives so that to be able to face the changing external conditions set by the global economy.
