Absztrakt (kivonat)

The purpose of this study is to compare the agricultural historical specialties of two regions of Central Europe predominated by large estates in respect of agrarian conditions before World War II, namely those of county Somogy in Transdanubia and the East Elbian province Pomerania taking into account the geographical differences and the development slope. While large estates in Pomerania centered primarily on the district under Swedish supremacy until 1815, in Somogy – where this structure dates from the time of the expulsion of the Turks – one can talk about an equable areal division. Concerning the schemes of the large estates of the two regions in the bourgeois era even the former „cliometrical” school dealt with the structural differences of the two regions. However, these studies did not cover the issue of peasantry or the era after 1918. In Swedish-Pomerania the class of peasants almost completely disappeared in the preindustrial era, whereas in Somogy it subsisted as a large-scale group to the last. The remainder of the Pomeranian peasants strived to enforce across their interests mainly on economic grounds in the frame of “notability organisations” cooperating with large estates. On the other hand, in connection with Somogy is significant that the smallholders’ party was founded exactly in this county.
