Established in 1928, the Szeged-Újszeged (known as the Missionary at the time) Church Parish is a modern-day congregation. On the occasion of its ninetieth anniversary in 2018, the decision was made to produce a monograph that conformed to the modern requirements of historiography. Compiling the post-1945 section of that history was the responsibility of the lecturer. The lecture follows a methodological concept. The work does not cover the historical events of the Szeged-Újszeged Church Parish so much as it examines the usefulness of the presbyter minutes as a historical resource. The researchers of Protestant Church history are usually clear about the central importance of presbyter minutes. Inasmuch as these are the most illustrious and well-kept resources of the life of a Protestant congregation, it begs the question:What exactly did the entries of the church council compose the sources of? And how did the following factors shape them: the laws of the Protestant Church; the characteristics of the universal, provincial and diocesan systems; national and local events; the material and social situation of the congregation; the denominational and spiritual imprint of the pastor on the congregation; and public awareness of the „faith of the parish”? But if the presbyter sources are „lacking” or prove to be „cryptic in nature”, how can they be compared to other sources, for example, to „oral histories”? The proposed lecture wishes to find the answers to these questions by delving into the presbyter minutes logged between 1944 and 1964 of the Szeged-Újszeged Church Parish.
