Absztrakt (kivonat)
Although research of the Hajdúbagos–Cehăluţ pottery tradition began with the archaeological investigation of the urn cemetery at Daraboshegy, burials and cemeteries are only sporadically documented during nearly 120 years of research. According to recent data, the area of the pottery tradition covers a large territory in the northeastern Carpathian Basin, including the area from Nyírség and the confluence of the Kraszna-Szamos Rivers to the White Körös River and eastwards to the Meszes Mountains. Despite this, only 12 mostly small cemeteries are known, and another 22 sites where burials have been discovered or where researchers believe burials were found. The reasons for the lack of knowledge about the burial customs include the lack of research, the fragmented delineation of the Hajdúbagos– Cehăluţ pottery tradition in Romania and Hungary until the 2000s, the separation of local archaeological groups in the 20th century and the worn-out fate of archaeological collections. Our current knowledge suggests that the burial rite of the Hajdúbagos–Cehăluţ communities was mainly inurned cremation, based on the Hajdúbagos–Daraboshegy and Sárrétudvari–Hízóföld cemeteries and smaller find assemblages. However, the skeleton graves excavated at the settlement sites of Hosszúpályi–Szomjúhát-dűlő 7; Nagykereki–Körtvélyes 1, as well as the seven inhumation graves from Hízóföld that were re-examined, have reduced the validity of the above statement. In addition, two other Hajdúbagos–Cehăluţ sites were investigated, where skeletal burials were unearthed in the first half of the 20th century. Two radiocarbon dates and the interpretation of the finds show the atypical burials are all related to the Hajdúbagos–Cehăluţ sites. The reasons for the difference from the prevailing burial rite are not yet clear, but the influence of the Tumulus culture communities, which played a major role in the development of the Hajdúbagos–Cehăluţ pottery style, is a plausible factor.
