The peace treaties that ended the First World War annexed the northern part of Hungary to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. In 1920 and the following years, this led to a complete reorganization of the Hungarian-inhabited areas. In May 1922, the statutes of the first Hungarian Teachers’ Association in the Highlands (Felvidék) after Trianon were adopted, and it was during this period that the Hungarian teaching community in the Highlands began to organize itself. The Slovak General Hungarian Teachers’ Association was founded. The secular teachers gathered around a press product called Magyar Tanító.
