The essay examines the different customs, relating to the veneration of St. Nicolas in the villages of Greek Catholic Apostolic Administrature of Miskolc. The icons of St. Nicolas can be found in a special place, among the basic pictures of the iconostasion, in every Greek Catholic Church. The visualization of St. Nicolas' typical attributions (tossing ship at sea, gospel book, omophor) is one of the sources of the survival of his legends and veneratoin forms. This article introduces the icon of St. Nicolas in the Greek Catholic Church in Sárospatak. It sums up the veneration of the saint in the reflection of the liturgic texts and practice. In personal devotion the role of the prayers to different saints is rather small, so these liturgical texts were not really used in personal worship. In Sárospatak the paraliturgical custom in connection with the feast of St. Nicolas is to bring different donations to the high mass. Typical gifts are stocks, or nut, poppy, bean, egg, sometimes bacon, wine and vegetable. The donations are blessed and consrecated by the priest. In some villages there is the so called St. Nicolas (of) day greetings verses. This day children go from house to house and for their greetings they get some presents. This custom is still alive today. From this article we get to know how the popular saint of the Roman Catholics, St. Anthony of Padova, takes over the place of St. Nicolas.
